Obituary for Lee Thompson

Willie Lee Thompson
August 7, 1957 – April 17, 2023

Willie Lee Thompson, age 65, of Anderson, SC, went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 7, 1957, in Winnsboro, SC, to Monie and JoAnn Thompson.

Lee was married to the love of his life, Deborah Bundrick Thompson, for 45 years.

Lee was living his best life on Lake Hartwell after many years of hard work. His joy came from riding on his boat, fishing, Gamecock Football, and spending every second that he could with his family, especially his grandchildren. In the eyes of everyone that he met, Lee was hard working, outgoing, compassionate, humorous, and one that never met a stranger. He was a selfless person and always put the needs of others first. Lee was a true family man. He could always be found spending time with his family at Gulf Shores, Alabama, Dollywood, and his favorite place of them all: Lake Hartwell. Lee was a great father, husband, grandfather, son, and friend. He was loved by so many, and his life will live on through his friends and family. We know he is spray painting those pearly gates and singing Leonard Skynyrd with the Lord.

He will deeply be missed by the love of his life, Deborah; Daughters, Cristel (Shan)Stancil of Anderson, and Ashley (John) Williamson of Anderson; Mother, JoAnn Barr of Wagener; Sister, Wanda(Joe) Edmonds of Wagener; Special Aunt, Faye Powers of Anderson; Grandchildren, Kaitlyn Byrne, Avery Williamson, and Kailee Williamson; and a host of extended family and friends.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Monie Lee Thompson and brother, David Thompson.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and support personnel who provided care and support to Lee through his sickness, and in particular, Dr. Doster, and his team at the Anderson Area Cancer Center.

In Leu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Anderson Area Cancer Center, 2000 E Greenville St 5000 1st floor, Anderson, SC 29621, or the Cancer Association of Anderson, South Carolina, 215 E Calhoun St, Anderson, SC 29621.

As you all know, Lee was a huge Gamecock fan. The family requests everyone to wear Gamecock attire or burgundy and black.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, April 21, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC, 29625. Pastor Scott Vaughn will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30pm until 3pm.
