Obituary for Wanda Batten

Wanda Brown Batten, 72, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Hospice of the Upstate after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A long life resident of Pendleton, Wanda was born on June 26, 1950, to the late Milford Brown Jr. and Frances Swaney Brown.

She was the wife of Lamar Batten. Surviving are two children; Bryan Batten (Heather) and Wendy Batten (Danny), brother Stanley Brown (Connie) and sister Regina Forrest. Wanda had four grandchildren; Ivy, Mara (Steven), Gage and Alex and 7 great grandchildren that she loved dearly.

Wanda worked for many years in the food service industry at School District 4. Afterwards she was owner of the Country Kettle restaurant, a friendly establishment where family, friends and the community gathered for a delicious home cooked meal. Wanda was never happier than when she was feeding folks. Wanda retired from State Farm, Ken Rowland Agency. She welcomed every client with her friendly smile. She never met a stranger and seemed to know everyone. We teasingly called her the unofficial mayor of Pendleton.

Wanda was a very active member of the Pendleton community. She was a member of the Pendleton Merchant's Guild, Friends of the Park and American Legion Auxiliary. She was named Volunteer of the Year of FOTP and member of the year at the American Legion. Wanda was a member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, September 24, at 10:30am at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, 2230 Old Greenville Hwy, Pendleton, SC.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Faith Fellowship at www.faithpendleton.com.
