Obituary for Dale Spence

BELTON, S.C. Dale Spence
Walter Dale Spence, 83, husband of Hazel Spence, died, Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Dale was a son of the late Farris Bethel Spence, and the late Bertha Josephine Smith Spence and stepson of the late Frances Spence.

He was retired from Duke Power and was a member of Dorchester Baptist Church in Belton.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Spence, son, Mark Spence (Kim), daughter, Sharon Hicks (Donald), grandchildren; Justin Sullivan (Kristy), Megan Ruhland (Daryl), Cody Spence (Lauren), and Dylan Spence (Gabby).

He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren, Gabe Sullivan, Scarlett Ruhland, Judah Spence, Eric Ruhland, and Maelee Spence, as well as special nieces and nephews, Debra Vaughn, Jean Dunn, Kathy Grant, Dale Johnson, and Donnie Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Johnson, and Louise Kilgore, along with his brothers, Farris “Red” Spence, and James “Sonny” Spence.

Dale loved carpentry work, gardening, and caring for his pets. During baseball season, he could be found in his recliner watching The Atlanta Braves!

The family will host a memorial service at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Dorchester Baptist Church in Belton. Rev. Michael Allen and Rev. Eric Boggs will officiate.

The family will receive friends, at the church, prior to the service, from 11:00am - 12:00pm.

Flowers are optional, or memorial donations may be made to the Rainey Hospice House or to Anderson County P.A.W.S.
