Obituary for Virgil Hardy

(Virgil Hardy) Virgil Henry Hardy, 74, husband of Linda Hardy of Anderson, died Saturday, February 6, 2021 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson on August 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Glenn Henry Hardy and Helen Mitchell Hardy.

Virgil served his country in the U.S. Army and then started a 40-year career with Michelin. He was a very accomplished musician and luthier, producing custom violins and guitars. There was not an instrument that he couldn’t play! He performed with several area bands. He played the drums for The Torques and played with Wide Open and Jimmy Vickers and The Elvis Band. He will be greatly missed in the upstate musical scene.

He will be remembered as a kind and generous husband and loving father to his wife of 53 years, Linda Robinson Hardy, and son Seth Hardy (Rene).

He is also survived by his sisters, Theresa Hardy (Jeff), Sheila Beckmann (David) and Marilyn Boggs (Steve).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Grayson & Bessie Hardy and his maternal grandparents, Rosco & Fannie Mae Mitchell.

A funeral service, with honors by the U.S. Army, will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 2:00pm in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd. Anderson, SC 29625. Rev. David Beckmann will officiate. Social distancing is to be observed and face masks are required.

Burial will follow at a later date at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Anderson County P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Worth Saving) 1329 US 29 Anderson, SC 29626.
