Obituary for Tom Langston

Honea Path, S.C.
(Tom Langston) Thomas Aubrey “Tom” Langston died peacefully at The Maples in Honea Path on Friday, December 11, 2020. After blessing this world with 89 years of joy, Tom went to his heavenly home.

Tom was the son of sharecroppers and was born and raised in Central, S.C. under modest conditions during the Great Depression and later served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Many will remember him best as a door-to-door coffee salesman that became a businessman who built many commercial properties - provided jobs & a livelihood for so many people - and very successful in his industry as the founder & owner of Langston Real Estate.

As a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Honea Path, S.C., he was very involved as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, leader of the men’s group and various other contributions.

His family knew him only as a kind and mild mannered gentleman - a helper - a giver! He took pride in all he did - from the way he dressed or made his bed - to planting flowers everywhere. Papa Tom - as he was affectionately called - was known for his long entertaining “true” stories, which he loved to repeat often.

Tom was a beautiful combination of someone who truly loved life & a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living a life of faith. He indeed lived by his faith - letting it guide his personal & business life. In 2014, he wrote his memoirs in a book titled “Walking On Faith”

His love of family shows in all that knew him. Surviving are his wife – Ginna Seay Langston, his daughter, Malette Gambrell (Grady) ; two grandchildren: Sara Gambrell Kotula, and Brock Langston Gambrell, & three great-grandchildren: Abby, Michael & Jacob Kotula.

He was the oldest of seven - six boys & one girl. Predeceased by his parents, Alvin & Lettie Gillespie Langston and two brothers - Norman (Martha Ann) & Jerry. He is survived by his siblings Bobby Langston (Betty) , Jimmy Langston (Margaret), Nancy Nasim (Mo), and Dean Langston (Linda).

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years - Jean Black Langston.

He had a life well lived & will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00am at The First Baptist Church of Honea Path 100 S. Main St. Honea Path, S.C. 29654. Rev. Megan Boatwright, and Rev. Gayle Beaudrot will officiate. Burial will follow in the Honea Path City Cemetery.
