Obituary for Preacher Wayne Powell

(Preacher Wayne Powell) Thomas Wayne Powell, 73, husband of Freddie Shiflet Powell of Anderson, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Monroe, Georgia on April 22, 1948, he was a son of the late Olin Thomas Powell and the late Eleanor Powell Norris.

He was retired from textiles and was the pastor of the Old Paths Holiness Church for over 35 years. He was known as Wayne to his loving wife of 56 years, Daddy to his children, Papa to his grandchildren, Preacher-Man to his co-workers and Brother Wayne to everyone else. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Freddie Shiflet Powell, children, Tracy Powell Dudley (Mark), Kimberly Powell Thompson, Larry Wayne Powell, and Crystal Powell Pressley (Jeff), 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Thad Norris, and his sister, Faye Culbertson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Ray Powell, his infant sons, Thomas and Billy Ray Powell, his sister, Diane Powell Still, and his brother, Dinky Norris.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 1:00pm in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd. Anderson, S.C. 29625. Rev. Ray Butler will officiate, and burial will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens in Starr.

The family will receive friends at the funeral center, prior to the service, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
