Obituary for Shelby Harris

Shelby Jean Harris, 84, widow of Daniel William Harris, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, June 11, 2022. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 6, 1937, Shelby was a daughter of the late Ernest Gibson, Sr., and the late Kizzie Farmer Gibson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robbie Edward Harris, and daughter, Wanda Jean Harris. She was also preceded by four of her sisters, Mary Jordan, Edna Fairbrother, Corrine Campbell & Margaret “Jodie” Bray and two of her brothers, Horace & Ralph Gibson.

She is survived by her sons, Tommy Harris, Mike Harris & Wayne Harris (grandson) and his wife, Brandy, daughter, Annette Holley, grandchildren, Evan Turner, Bradley Harris, Angel Harris, Jennifer Harris, Brittany Harris & Amy Ross, 21 great-grandchildren, one sister, Martha Goff, two brothers, Ernest Gibson, Jr. & Roger Gibson and several nieces & nephews.

No stranger to hard work, Shelby was one of the hardest working women you would ever meet. She was a sewing machine operator for several textile companies and carried this skill home to provide clothing and alterations for her family. She was a model employee and was only forced into retirement when she became the caregiver for her ailing husband.

Family was the most important to Shelby and this was evident by how she spoiled her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They knew they would always get their way with Granny.

Cooking Sunday dinner was something that the Harris family became accustomed to throughout the years. Each Sunday the entire family made their way to Granny’s house for a big dinner with her specialty, biscuits. She was in the kitchen making those famous biscuits only two weeks before she was called to heaven.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Belmont Church of God of Prophecy, 203 Belmont Drive, Anderson, SC 29624. Rev. Alan Rhodes & Wayne Harris will officiate. Burial will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held prior to the service at Belmont Church of God of Prophecy from 10:00am – 11:00am.
