Obituary for Rev. Sam Autry

(Rev. Sam Autry) Rev. Samuel Douglas Autry, Sr.,70, husband of Nancy Wilson Autry of Belton, died Monday, February 8, 2021 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson on June 29, 1950, he was a son of the late James Alton Autry, Sr. and the late Margaret Allred Autry.
Sam was a 1969 graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School where he lettered in all sports. He particularly excelled in track and held a record at BHP for many years. He attended Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. on a track scholarship. After college, he became a certified paramedic until his calling into the ministry. He pastored Duncan Church of God in Duncan, S.C. and for 20 years was the pastor of Rocky River Church of God in Anderson, (now known as Restoration House). Upon his retirement, he was ordained, Bishop with the Church of God, Cleveland, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilson Autry, daughter, Tonyna Autry Hudgens (David), son, Samuel D. Autry, Jr. (Amber), grandchildren, McKinlee Hudgens, Cason Hudgens, Caleb Autry, Josiah Autry and Arella Autry.

He is also survived by his sister, Dotty Autry Smith (Rickey) and a sister-in-law, Martha Autry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Alton Autry, Jr. and his twin grandsons, Samuel D. Autry III and Judah Alton Autry.

A funeral service to celebrate his life and ministry will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2:00pm at Restoration House 5001 Abbeville Hwy Anderson, SC 29624. Bishop David Hudgens, Bishop Howard Steen and Tommy Sprouse will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Restoration House prior to the service from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

Social distancing is to be observed and face masks are optional.
