Obituary for Robert Spake
Robert “Bob” Charles Spake, 88, resident of Anderson, passed away Thursday, June 30,2022.
Born in Anderson, Robert was a son of the late Charles Evander Spake and Ethel Corrine Cobb.
Robert began working as a teenager in the grocery business and worked his way up to management. He spent his entire career in the grocery industry and upon retiring he began serving as a county commissioner for the Town of Caswell Beach where he was instrumental in starting a beach renewal program. After returning to Anderson, SC in 2001, he began volunteering for Meals on Wheels. He also started baking pound cakes for the local Hospice and other organizations, becoming known affectionately as “The Cake Man”.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter Jackie Southwell (Paul) of Currituck, NC; son Robert Spake, Jr. (Wendy) of Townville, SC and daughter Sylvia Anne Spake of Anderson, SC. He was also survived by three grandsons, Adam Southwell (Aubrey), John Southwell (Myra), Robert C. Spake, III; and four great grandchildren, Kirsten Spake, Beckett Southwell, Finn Southwell, and Marshall Southwell; and one sister, Barbara Baker.
Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Spake, a daughter, Gwen, a son, Rodney, and two brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will speak to attendees following the graveside service.
