Obituary for Buck Sims

Robert Leonard “Buck'' Sims, 81, passed away serenely at Richard M. Campbell Veterans’ Nursing Home on Monday, May 1, 2023.

Buck was born in Fort Myers, Florida, the son of the late Leonard Earnest Sims and Ardis Annette McQuaig Sims. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy after 20 years service. He also retired from Allsouth Communications, the company he started.

In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Davis, as well as his wife of 27 years Faye Alverson Sims.

Buck is survived by a brother, Gene Sims (Dorothy) and a sister, Stephanie Wright both of Coral Gables, Florida; his wife, Sandy Mulwee Sims of the home; a son, Richard Sims of Greer; a daughter, Dana Wham (Shannon) of Simpsonville; a step-daughter, Melissa Houser (Charles) of Greenville, a granddaughter; Kayla Cullum (Brandon); three grandsons, Jackson Houser, Harris Houser, Ryken Randolph; and two great-grandchildren, Viviana and Logan Cullum.

According to his wishes, Buck will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea by the US Navy.

The family will host a visitation from 1:00-1:45 pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023, with memorial service to follow at Grace Church Harrison Bridge, 204 Harrison Bridge Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Buck be made to Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621 or the Alzheimer’s Association 123 West Antrim Drive, Greenville, SC 29607.

The family would like to thank the staff of Richard M. Campbell Veterans’ Nursing Home, especially the nurses and CNAs of Unit 5, for their competent and kind care for Buck during his last months.
