Obituary for Bob Gabel

Robert (Bob) Laurence Gabel, 67, passed away after a long illness at home, April, 14, 2022. Bob was born on April 7, 1955 to Frederick and Theodosia Elizabeth (Nichlos) Gabel in Morris, Illinois. Bob attended Immaculate Conception School, Morris Community High School and completed his BA in Liberal Arts.

Having never met a stranger, Bob had the gift of making friends wherever he traveled, sharing his benevolent heart and kind words in attempts to make this world a better place. As a lifetime learner, Bob had a passion for literacy throughout his adult life, helping many people learn to read. He was supportive to those entering recovery, working as a peer counselor for many years, and most recently as a volunteer and friend at Greenwood Pathway House in Greenwood, SC.

Bob is survived by his son, Jacob (Maria) and their children Michelle, Jacob & Benjamin; his daughter, Lena, sister, Barbara Gabel, brother, Timothy Gabel, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Gabel, and his brother-in-law, William Gonnam.

A memorial service will be privately held.
