Richard Jerry Payton, 69, of Anderson, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at his home.
He was the son of the late M.E. “Jimmy” Payton, and the late Annie Jane Payton.
Richard worked as a truck driver for many years. His greatest passion was Freemasonry. He loved to advocate for masons all over the south, and was a honorary member of over 25 lodges in the southeast. He was also a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.
Richard is survived by his sons, Jerry Lee Payton (Elizabeth), James Gregory Payton (Ammie), and Nicholas Stewart Payton, along with his partner of 23 years, Bonnie Sears. Richard is also survived by his grandchildren Emily, Jordan, Abbigale, and Addison.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Gethsemane Baptist Temple 6116 SC-81, Starr, SC 29684. Pastor Sam Duncan will officiate.
A private burial will take place at the Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster.
