Obituary for Raymond Woods

Ray Woods
May 1, 1956- October 20, 2022

Raymond (Ray) Robert Woods, born in North Olmstead, OH, on May 1, 1956, to Anna D Gray and William L Woods, passed away in his home in Williamston, SC on Thursday October 20, 2022.

Ray was a dedicated husband, loving father, and loyal son. He was an accomplished musician, an avid motorcyclist, and an expert handyman and mechanic. His keen ear for music and knowledge of electronics were used extensively while he served as media director for New Hope Baptist Church.

Ray was an Air Force veteran with 4 years of honorable service as a communications specialist and his career in telecommunications would continue for the rest adult life.

After leaving the military life behind and searching for his happiness he finally found the love of his life in Carla who he always referred to as “his angel”. Having dated in high school their paths crossed once more as they were brought together by their shared love for music, motorcycles, and each other. Ray and Carla joined several local music/singing groups where they regularly participated expressing through music the happiness and contentment they had found together. They were very fond of supporting local artists and entrepreneurs by visiting shops and restaurants in search of unique food, drinks, and friends.

Their home has always been a welcoming haven for friends and family who brought even more joy with every visit. Ray will be remembered by everyone who met him for his twinkling eyes, ready laugh, and contagious smile which he would flash freely to lift up those around him. His warm inviting tone and quick witted jokes were a pleasure for anyone in his company. For those who were lucky enough to receive one, he was bestowed with the unofficial title of “Worlds best hugger” and always had one at the ready at just the right time.

Ray is survived by his wife Carla Woods, his mother Anna Gray, his three children Ryan Woods, David Mahan (Chelsea), Stephen Mahan (Christine), his 4 grandchildren Constance Mahan, Conley Mahan, Coralee Mahan, Covea Mahan, and his sister, Linda Marino (Phil).

Ray is preceded in death by his father, William L, Woods, and his infant son, Raymond Robert Woods, Jr.

Ray’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 29, 2022 @ 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church, 108 New Hope Rd Pelzer, SC where he has been an active member and audio/visual engineer for 7 years.
