Obituary

Randy Gene Hoyes, of Anderson, SC, died unexpectedly on March 24, 2021.

He was born on February 12, 1950 in South Bend, IN, to William and Martha Hoyes Richey. Randy graduated from Washington High School in 1968 where he was a well-respected varsity athlete playing both football and baseball.

He retired from Jani-King in Raleigh NC in 2013 and was previously employed by GMI in Cary, NC and RACO in South Bend, IN.

Randy leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Carol Fortin Hoyes, as well as his children Theresa (Jim) Jongkind, Claudette Hoyes, Dale (Amy) Hoyes, and Jason (Lindsay) Hoyes and 6 grandchildren Tim and Sammi Brady, Joshua Smith, and Madison, Camden, and Luna Hoyes. Brothers Bill and Fred (Megan) Hoyes also survive.

Randy was a proud Army veteran serving in Vietnam and Korea (1968-1972). He was a dedicated member of the Vets Helping Vets Anderson group where veterans share their struggles and experiences while offering each other unconditional support. Randy’s commitment to this group, its members, and its mission was profound. Randy was a lifelong Notre Dame football and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf, was an amateur photographer, and, above all, loved spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Cooter Lee.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021, from The Tribute Room at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Vets Helping Vets Anderson, P.O. Box 265, Anderson, SC, 29622 or by visiting http://vetshelpingvetsanderson.com.

Randy and I go back to the days where we played Babe Ruth Baseball together. We were honored to have won a state championship together. We also played high school football together at South Bend Washington. We were Panthers through and through. Our senior year Randy was our captain. This was years before class football. Back then there was only one state champ. Our senior year we were runner up in the state of Indiana. Randy was our end and I was our quarterback. I always knew Randy to give 100% to what ever he did. He was so proud of his service to his country and family. I will miss you brother. You will live on in my heart for as long as I will live. One of these days we will be together again Captain. Until then my friend. The best to his wife and family.
