Obituary for Mildred Cash

Mildred B. Cash, age 89, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 28, 2021.

Mildred was a 1949 graduate of Anderson’s Girls High. She was a very proud retiree of Southern Bell (now BellSouth AT&T) where she worked for 33 years. Mildred started work as an operator, then transferred to the Assignment department where she was eventually the first woman promoted to the Assignment Supervisor position. After a few years of retirement, Mildred opened and operated the Country House Gift Shop on Liberty Highway for ten years until her mother’s declining health necessitated her final retirement from the workplace.

Mildred Cash had a great heart of love, mercy and compassion and was very active in service to her community and church. She was a member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers (the service organization for AT&T active employees and retirees), a member and past president of both the Altrusa Club of Anderson and the Anderson Business and Professional Women. She was a charter member of the Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary where she volunteered for 25 years before health issues forced her to retire. During that time, she was the Auxiliary president for many years and a member of Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors.

Mildred was a dedicated and long-time member of Welcome Baptist Church where she served as the Church Hostess for more than 30 years and was a member of the choir where she joyfully sang praises to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was an ardent fan of Clemson sports, especially the Clemson Tigers Football Team.

Mildred is survived by her beloved and cherished daughter, best friend and caregiver, Kimberly Cash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Cash, her older brother, William Bowie, her older sister, Helen Bowie and her parents, Arthur Allan and Sula Sharpton Bowie.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 5, 2021 from 1-2 pm at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center where the funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with the Rev. Wayne Watson officiating. Burial will be at New Silver Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Welcome Baptist Church, P.O. Box 757, Sandy Springs, SC 29677, the Anderson County Humane Society, 407 Pearman Dairy Rd. Anderson, SC 29625, or the Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department, 740 Blackman Rd, Pendleton, SC 29670.
