Obituary for Larry Thompson

(Larry Thompson) Melvin Larry Thompson, 82, husband of Linda Boiter Thompson, of Anderson, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Born in Anderson, on November 26, 1940, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland Thompson, and the late Dorothy Louise Pack Thompson.

Larry was a 1959 graduate of Anderson Boy’s High School, and a 1962 graduate of Anderson College. He later obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering and embarked on a nearly 30-year career with the 3M Corporation. He retired from 3M in 2001. After retirement, he worked with Clemson Properties and was an active volunteer with The American Red Cross. He was deployed across the United States, providing immediate assistance to those affected by hurricanes, flooding and fires. He also enjoyed working in his yard and staying healthy! He loved to run and ride his bike for several miles, up until the last year of his life.

He was an active member of High Praises Church of God in Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Boiter Thompson, son, Pastor Eric Thompson (Valerie), daughter, Angela Turner (Joey), grandchildren; Seth Thompson, Katelyn Thompson, Luke Thompson, Elizabeth Sustar (Pastor Evan Sustar), Joshua Turner, Matthew Turner, and Anna Catherine Turner, as well as a great-grandson, August Sustar.

He is also survived by his brother, Alton Thompson (Gloria) and sister, Darlene Brooks (Mike).

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Glenn Thompson (Diane).

The family will receive friends at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, from 1:30pm-3:00pm.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Pastor Chris Sustar and Pastor Evan Sustar will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Belton, S.C.
