Mary Joyce Shirley
June 15, 1942 - January 29, 2021
Mary Joyce Shirley, 78, resident of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021 at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in Greenwood on June 15, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Adger S. and Francis Von Shirley. Upon earning her degree from Greenwood schools, she began working for Greenwood Mills in both the Durst and Matthews Plant. Most recently she was employed with 7/11 and made many friends with the locals who stopped in. Mary was affectionately known as “Grandmother” by her family and close friends whom she loved spending time with. She will always be remembered for living her life to the fullest while being a true one of a kind.
Mary was a member of Harris Baptist Church and adored her church family.
Survivors include her daughter, Tonya Hutchinson of Greenwood, three grandsons, Samuel (Sara Marsh) Hutchinson of Lexington, Austin Hutchinson of Greenwood and Gerald (Sarah Jaeger) Hutchinson of Greenwood, She is also survived by two sisters, Victoria “Vicky” Shirley of Fountain Inn, Linda Shirley of Hodges, and loved by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday at Harris Baptist Church, 300 Center St, Greenwood, SC 29649, with Rev. Frank Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
