Obituary for Mary Lou McKee

(Mary Lou McKee) Mary Lou Watford McKee, 81, wife of David McKee of Belton, died Saturday, June 11, 2022, at her home.

Born in Lamar, S.C., on February 28, 1941, and raised in Andrews, S.C., she was one of ten children of the late Myron Lester Watford and the late Lottie Parnell Watford.

After graduating Anderson College with a degree in Early Childhood Education, she served as secretary of Belton Second Baptist Church for several years until establishing McKee Day Care in her home. She served hundreds of children in the Belton area and had a lasting impact on them until her death. She and her husband were active members of Belton Second Baptist Church, where they were involved in many areas of church life. They loved mission work, and she formerly served on the South Carolina Baptist Convention Executive Committee.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Lee McKee, sons, Myron Andrew “Andy” McKee (Valerie), and Michael Lee McKee (Mindy), daughter, Lou Anne McKee Ortiz, and grandchildren; Allen Andrew McKee (Shannon), Emily Hope McKee Shunkwiler (Sam), Sara Grace McKee, Cody Ambrose, Cayla Marie Ortiz Chapman (Austin), Ana Noell Ortiz, and Nicolas Anthony Marcelo Ortiz.

She is also survived by her new great-grandchild, Raiden Van Chapman.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by all her siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Second Baptist Church Belton, 5901 Belton Hwy, Belton, S.C. 29627. Rev. Mark Watford and Dr. Robert Dickard will officiate. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories in Belton.

The family will receive friends, at the church, prior to the service, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either, Second Baptist Church Belton, or to Belton Interfaith Ministries.
