Obituary for Maggie Harrison

Maggie Louise Bryson Harrison
May 21, 1932—April 26, 2023

Maggie Louise Bryson Harrison, 90, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Born on May 21, 1932, Maggie was the daughter of William Brant Bryson and Lila Hedden Bryson.

Maggie married Arnold Lathanial Harrison on January 9, 1954, and they went on to enjoy 62 years together, including the birth of seven children (5 sons and 2 daughters), nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and counting.

Maggie was an adoring wife, a doting mother and a quintessential Southern cook. Maggie and Arnold’s home was busy and welcoming, and the door was always open for family, friends, and neighbors to drop in, where all were invited to eat Maggie’s delicious made-from-scratch meals that often included fresh produce from their garden. Every morning for more than 40 years, Maggie lovingly baked two dozen homemade biscuits for her family, and her five-layer chocolate cake was requested at every gathering. She hosted countless holidays, barbecues, and Sunday dinners over 62 years at her home on Dixon Road.

Maggie always had a youthful and vibrant spirit. She enjoyed fashion and loved any occasion to get dressed up. She also had a spontaneous adventurous side and was eager to travel. She loved the Carolina coast and the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. Spending time with family gave Maggie the greatest joy.
Maggie worked at Singer Corporation from 1970 until 1995. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and professed the Christian faith.

Maggie was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Harrison, her parents Brant and Lila Bryson, and her children Christopher Lathanial Harrison and Susan Harrison Watson. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Doris Fitzgerald, Talmadge Bryson, and Hoyt Bryson.

Maggie is survived by her children Diane Harrison Marston, Dwaine Edward Harrison, Kenneth Rodney Harrison, Mark Anthony Harrison, and Barry Ray Harrison. She is survived by her siblings Paul Bryson and Carolyn Bryson Smith.
