Obituary for Lorene West Arledge

Lorene West Arledge, 85, of Anderson, S.C., formerly of Columbia, S.C., died Friday, June 17, 2022.

Born in Camden, S.C., on November 5, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Ernest Henry West and the late Annie Belle Hough West.

Lorene lived most of her adult life in Columbia, S.C., where she was a certified legal secretary for several Columbia area attorneys. She also served, and ultimately retired from, the South Carolina House of Representatives, as a desk clerk and researcher for several committees. In January, of 2020, she relocated to Cardinal Park, in Anderson, S.C., to be closer to her family, and there, she joined Concord Baptist Church, where she garnered many friendships.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin Arledge (Vondell), and Bruce Arledge (Erin), her grandchildren; Jason Arledge (Brittany), Keeley Arledge, Brittany Sears (Joshua), and Caroline Poeng (Andrew), and six great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Roland.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, David Alan Arledge, her husband, Shirley A. Hinson, and her brother, Clayburn West.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Rev. Jim Crittendon will officiate.

The family will receive friends, at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, prior to the service, from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.

A private family burial will take place at Wateree Baptist Church, Camden, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, 1012 Concord Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29621.
