Obituary

(Johnny Suttles) Johnny Coy Suttles, 73, husband of Carol Dyar Suttles of Townville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 30, 2021 at The Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Royston, Ga on February 12, 1948, he was a son of the late Horace Haskell Suttles and the late Ruby Pauline Crump Suttles.

He was a successful businessman with 55 years in the trucking industry. He started as a driver and was the owner of John Suttles Trucking and was also employed as Regional Manager of Suttles Truck Leasing Inc., the second largest tank carrier in the nation.

Other than the businessman, he had a passion for speed! He is a well-known and respected drag boat racer with 7 National Championship and a world record holder in speed in his division.

He also loved racing at the local asphalt tracks where he won many races, and as car owner, won a championship in 2011 with his son, Russell Powell as the driver.

He loved living on Lake Hartwell, his boats and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles.

He loved and was loved by a tremendous number of friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was blessed by God to have lived life and he loved life to the fullest. However, his greatest joy was being “papa”!

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Carol Dyar Suttles, his sons, Keith Suttles (Stephanie), Joshua Powell (Riley), and Russell Powell (Amber), daughter, Beth Ehlert (Danny), grandsons, Greyson, Keean, Aiden and Mason Powell and Nate Prather (Crystal) and granddaughters, Peyton Suttles, Adelyn, Brennan, Stephanie and Jessica Ehlert, and Kensley Powell.
He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Ann Thomas and nephew, Tim Suttles (Joy).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Coy Suttles Jr., his brother, James Haskell Suttles and his nephew, James Robert “J.R.” Suttles.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 11:00am at Oakdale Baptist Church, Townville, S.C. with Rev. David Blizzard officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Townville, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to The Rainey Hospice House, C/O Hospice of The Upstate 1835 Rogers Rd. Anderson, S.C. 29621.
