John Rayford Busby, Jr., 73, husband of Deborah Gault Busby of Anderson, died Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Anderson on August 6, 1947, he was the son of the late John Rayford Busby, Sr., and the late Mary McClure Busby.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Emily Busby Metts (Jonathan), stepdaughters, Laura Fagg Ellison, and Leah Fagg Maus (Greg), grandchildren, Emma and Nolin Metts, step-grandsons, Joshua and William Ellison, and Wyatt and Tristan Maus, three sisters, Bess McIntyre (Pete) of Anderson, SC, Anna Pittman (Ron) of Raleigh, NC, and Louise McClure (Tripp) of Westminster, SC. He is also survived by eight very special nieces, Elizabeth McIntyre Fairchild, Stephanie McIntyre Knisley (Chip), Marianna Pittman, Kathryn Pittman Chappelle, Marett McClure Bishop (Tracy), Ashley McClure, Laura McClure Holt (Bradley), Jane McClure, and lots of close cousins and good friends.
John was a faithful member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, and he so loved his church family.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1966 to December 1968.
John spent his childhood on a dairy farm and worked most of his adult life as a dairy farmer. He was a cowboy through and through. You rarely saw John without his cowboy hat and boots, a starched neatly pressed long sleeved shirt and those heavily starched jeans. He had a special love for and bond with his horses and dogs (and even a cat or two). He was an avid reader, loved music and especially loved singing to his precious daughter, Emily, every single day as she was on her way to work and on her way home from work. He dearly loved all his family, and he loved each one with his whole heart. HE WILL TRULY BE MISSED!
The family will host a memorial service at Forest Hill Baptist Church, 909 Plantation Road, Anderson, SC on Saturday, June 12, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tom Owen will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest Hill Baptist Church, 909 Plantation Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
