Obituary for Jewel Elrod

(Jewel Elrod) Jewel Pruitt Elrod, 96, wife of the late Richard Elrod, of the Whitefield Community, died Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born in Anderson on January 25, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Walter Pruitt and the late May Drake Pruitt.
Mrs. Elrod and her husband owned and operated Elrod Upholstery on Hwy 29 N. for many years. She worked alongside him as his office manager and bookkeeper. She loved to volunteer her time to the community, especially when there was a fundraiser at the Whitefield Fire Department where her husband was a volunteer.
She was a lifetime member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest member at the time of her death. She taught Sunday School at the church for over 30 years, served in the Methodist Women group and loved crocheting with her church knitting group, “Knit Wits”. They donated countless crocheted hats to the local cancer association and to the homeless in the area.
She is survived by her children, Judy E. West (David), and Tony R. Elrod, grandchildren, Toni Anderson (Sam), Bryan Spearman (Ann), and Anggie Acker (Garren), great-grandchildren, Briana Laston, Jarryd Laston, Gage Laston (Corrine), Riley Spearman, Avery Spearman, Andrew Zortea, Charlie Winters, Grant Acker, and Gerek Acker, and a great-great-grandchild, Braylon Saad.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ruth Boggs, James Pruitt, Mary Jane Snider, and Joe Pruitt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm in the sanctuary of Union Grove United Methodist Church 3332 US 29, Belton, S.C. 29627. A graveside service will follow at 3:00pm in the church cemetery. Rev. Jason Dorriety will officiate.
