Jerry Clifton Smith
August 24, 1952 - May 19, 2023
Jerry Clifton Smith, 70, of Belton, SC, went to his heavenly home on Friday May 19, 2023. He passed peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Ossie and Mattie (Chapman) Smith.
He was raised in Anderson and graduated from McDuffie High School in 1970.
He is dearly loved and will be missed by his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Phillips) Smith. as well as by his only daughter, Christy, her husband, Peter, and his grandchildren Neil (18), Jenna (14), and Erin (13).
He grew up around race cars developing an affinity for them. Over the years he raced and won at local tracks in South Carolina and Georgia. He was the longtime owner and operator of Jerry’s Automotive Machine Shop where he machined high performance engines with skill and precision.
He loved to catch catfish on the Santee Cooper Lake. He also greatly enjoyed hunting multiple game animals and cherished his second amendment rights. He served in the Army National Guard and had a patriotic heart.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Monday May 22, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC 29625. Pastor Dale Cross will officiate.
The family will speak to guests following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
