Obituary for Jack Williams

Jack Melvin Williams peacefully entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Jack was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 12, 1927, the son of Duckworth C. Williams and Mary Ethel Estes Williams. He is survived by his sister, Ruth B. Williams, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his sisters Holly Rouse, Mary Parker, Katherine Reed, and Elizabeth Anne Fox, and his brothers, Broughton Williams and DC Williams, Jr.

Jack honorably served our country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Radioman Third Class onboard the USS McCaffery from February 1945 through July 1946. He later graduated from the University of Georgia in 1954 with a BBA in Marketing. Jack’s professional civilian career began as a Marketing Development Manager for the International Division of the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. (3M) in St. Paul, Minnesota. He worked for the 3M Company for 17 years covering Europe, the Middle East and South America. He was the owner and CEO of Williams Truck and Equipment Co for 9 years with a sales volume of $1.25 million in the first 4 years. In 1979, Jack embarked on a career in real estate, working for various companies along the way, including his own appraisal business. Jack completed his professional career in 2014 after working 25 years as a contractor with the Federal Aviation Administration as a Realty Specialist acquiring land sites for navigation equipment. Jack retired at the age of 87. A few years later, realizing retirement didn’t suit him, Jack was dismayed by the fact that no one would hire a 90-year-old man.

Jack was an avid Georgia Bulldogs football fan and season ticket holder, an Atlanta Braves fan, and enjoyed watching sports, no matter what the event. You could always find him on a racquetball court or enjoying Atlanta’s active social scene. His most favorite event this year was watching the Bulldogs defeat Alabama for the National Championship.

Jack was a beloved Brother and Uncle, and a cherished friend to so many of the lives he touched. His smile and bright blue eyes made him a ladies’ man and revealed a sweet boyish charm that was present even when his battle with cancer was the toughest. The family graciously thanks the Church Home and Kindred Hospice doctors, nurses, CNAs, therapists, and caregivers who lovingly cared for him as he completed his life’s journey.

A graveside funeral, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1:00pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery, E. Shockley Ferry Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29624.
