Obituary for Helen Hanks
Helen Irene Hanks, 96, of Iva, S.C., died Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, S.C.
Born in Iva, on August 5, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Orr Frank Hanks, and the late Mallie Burdette Hanks.
Helen retired from textiles and was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church in Iva, where she taught children in Sunday School for over 30 years. She was the former Sunday School Director for the church and served as the church custodian as long as her health permitted. She loved serving The Lord at Rocky River and participated in many areas of church life.
She is survived by her sisters, Bonnie Brown, Juanita Loftis, and Joyce McCullough, as well as her stepsiblings, Joy Hulme, Sherry Darby, Keith Kelly, and Curtis Kelly.
She is also survived by her great-great niece, raised in the home, Kyleigh Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Rocky River Baptist Church in Iva, S.C. Rev. Harold Walker will officiate, and burial will follow at Iva City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, at the church, prior to the service, from 1:00pm – 2:00pm.
