What sadness, that God has taken Gary. We mourn your loss, but we rejoice for Gary, for we know God has embraced him in ultimate tranquility. If the stars seem brighter it is because the joy that is Gary has been added to the firmament.
Gary, We love you, man. At the ‘05th you were a mate “for all seasons,” checkin’ our six—keeping us ahead of the pursuit. As a crewmate you always took care of your crew, whether it was jumping the line at the T-Hof Sahne Tresen to make sure our “lunch” was fresh, or your smiling brightly for the photos taken by the East German pilots who occasionally flew formation with us to help us “navigate” the air corridors. As a teammate, you were irreplaceable in keeping our Little League baseball players upbeat, no matter the score, and for corralling your fellow coaches when we headed to the umpires to express a counter opinion. As a squadron mate your humor kept us awake, no matter how routine the mission brief, and you always had a pick-me-up to fill the lulls during squadron socials. As a friend, well, you had many, because you were there for them when needed. We thank God, and Anette, for sharing you with us. Rest in peace dear friend. I’ll throw a nickel on the grass for you. Ein Prosit!

I had the immense pleasure of flying with Gary during our respective tours of USAF duty in Germany back in the 70's. Always unflappable and upbeat, Gary's contributions were absolutely indispensable. Through the intervening years, I've always remembered him with the greatest respect and pleasure both as a fellow crew member and a valued friend. May your memories of him comfort and strengthen you in the years ahead. Sincerely, Sam & Diana Baker
