Obituary for Fran Krug

Frances Alice Clyde Krug, 87, resident of Waterloo, SC, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Greenwood, SC, on October 27, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Born January 26, 1935, in Cassopolis, Michigan, she was the oldest child of the late Howard Wallace Clyde and Frances Wilhelmena Adamski Clyde. Fran’s only surviving sister, Beverly Clyde Koegler, resides in Orange City, FL. Fran was predeceased by her youngest son, John, her two brothers, Robert and Howard, and her great-grandson, Parker.

Fran grew up on Long Island, graduating from Paul D. Schreiber High School, in Port Washington, NY. She often reminded her friends that she was both a member of the Play Troup as well as a gymnast during her high school years. After she married, Fran was completely devoted to raising her seven children, and often shared how she treasured that period in her life. She volunteered at her children’s schools when they were involved in school activities, was a Girl Scout leader for many years, and CCD volunteer teacher. Fran chuckled when she recalled Perry Como reaching out for her hand over a crowded booth and pulling her into it at one of Our Lady of Fatima’s annual church bazaars. While on Long Island, Fran worked as a Field Guide Coordinator at the Science Museum of Long Island, in Manhasset, NY, where she trained volunteers for more than 10 years to lead children on nature walks.

In 1986, Fran moved to Greenwood, SC, where she was employed as a math teacher assistant at Greenwood High School. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed gardening, “cruising” the lake, making floral arrangements, acting in plays at the Greenwood Community Theater, and being a Care Friend for persons afflicted with HIV-AIDS. After Fran retired in 2000, she added to her endeavors traveling to Lourdes, France with her daughter Karen, going on four cruises, traveling to the Holy Land with a group of church members, ministering weekly to the Catholic women inmates at Leath Correctional Institution, serving at OLOL as Eucharistic Minister, choir member, and Women’s Club member, volunteering with Paws Animal Wildlife Sanctuary to rescue orphaned and injured wildlife, and participating in many dinners, wine tastings, and fun times spent with her family and friends.

Fran is survived by her soulmate of 41 years, Bonita Brown, her three daughters: Kathryn Krug Galanski (Greg) and Kimberly Krug Werst both of Hartwell, GA, and Karen Mary White (Randy) of Huber Heights, OH, and her three sons: Michael Krug (Kit) of Huntington, NY, Kevin Krug (Eileen) of White Plains, NY, and Daniel Krug (Michelle) of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Fran is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Amy Krug, of Deerfield Beach, FL, her 102-year-old Aunt Marie Adamski of Ridge, NY, fourteen grandchildren: Holly, Nancee, Chelsea, Adam, Leainni, Alex, Catherine, Kasey, Matt, Michelle, Kyle, Lexi, Tyler, and Noelle, and six great-grandchildren: Brayden, Aiden, Gage, Ava, Emmett, and Oliver.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 5, at 11:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (OLOL) in Greenwood, SC, with Rev. Msgr. Richard D. Harris, V.G. officiating. Entombment will follow in the columbarium located in the Prayer Garden at Our Lady of Lourdes. A light luncheon celebrating Fran’s life will follow her burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenwood Catholic Women’s Club Sunshine Fund, 915 Mathis Rd, Greenwood, SC 29649, or to Paws Animal Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc., PO Box 157, Waterloo, SC 29384.
