Eunice Hilda Raabe
September 30, 1938 – April 8, 2021

Eunice Hilda Raabe, 83, of Anderson, SC, passed away at her home on April 8, 2021.

Eunice was born September 30, 1938, the daughter of the late Ethel Maude and Alfred Godfrey, of Norwich, England. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Lee Raabe and her sister, Yvonne Westlake.

She is survived by her sisters, Irene Metcalfe, Edna Dye, and Diane Waller; her brother, Tony Godfrey; her son, Darren Lee Raabe and his wife, Diane, of Anderson; her daughter, Tammy Raabe Brown and her husband Terry, of Alexandria, Virginia; her two grandchildren, Logan and Hayden Raabe; and her new great-grandchild, Gage Raabe.

Born in Norwich, England, Eunice met her husband of 40 years, Billie Raabe, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force at RAF Lakenheath, England. Eunice enjoyed a long career working for AAFES at many Air Force bases in the U.S. and abroad, retiring at Myrtle Beach AFB, S.C. when it closed in 1993. She also enjoyed working on base as a seamstress in her early career, and enjoyed ceramics as a hobby as well.

Eunice moved to Anderson, SC in 2014 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed her peaceful life on Lake Hartwell, spending her time sewing, crafting, and spoiling the family’s pets with treats. Always an animal lover, Eunice was happy to be surrounded by nature, and encouraged her family’s love of gardening, fishing, and guinea pigs.

A diehard Alabama fan, Eunice would always be ready for a game with her beloved “Roll Tide” gear, from hat to hoof. She always enjoyed supporting local high school sports, whether working concessions for her children’s high schools, or through helping her daughter-in-law Diane, a high school coach and long-time volunteer for the Special Olympics.

Eunice gave in so many small ways, and her laugh could fill a room. Her sense of humor nourished many a weary heart. Her food nourished many a soul. Her generosity of spirit allowed many to live a better life—and Nanny, as Eunice was known by many, loved to see those around her thrive with her help.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
