Obituary for Erich Jacob

Erich J. Jacob
July 19, 1934 – March 3, 2021
(Loving Husband, Dad & Opa)

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our Dad this morning around 7AM at the age of 86 years. Dad fought the good fight these last two weeks… but prostate cancer got the best of him.
Born in Ridgewood, New York, on July 19, 1934. Dad spent his childhood years during WWII in Adorf, Germany. A family vacation turned to years of separation from their Dad, who stayed behind in Ridgewood. Dad told us many stories of his adventures in Germany and then how he and his brother returned to the States all by themselves aboard a Red Cross boat to be greeted by their Dad, who was standing on the dock waving, “here I am”.

In the summer of 1959, on a visit to Rochester, NY… Dad was introduced to our Mom by his brother and sister in-law… and let’s just say, it was love at first sight. Dad and Mom were married in 1960, and welcomed their daughter and two sons into the family. Dad worked as a Tool & Die Maker in NYC and then in Rochester, NY until his retirement. With the fall of the Berlin Wall… it was a dream come true for Dad and Mom to return to Adorf in 1990 for a Family Reunion with his Jacob Siblings. Childhood memories were relived and an opportunity to show Mom, Dave, and me the Jacob Homestead. In 2010, Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends… a golden time was had by all.
Dad enjoyed the outdoors… an avid hunter and marksmen having been the Captain of the Alliance Shooting Team… he even reminded us on Saturday how he shot 5 deer in one day. A true German thru and thru… Dad loved his Soccer and would never miss a Bayern München Soccer game on TV… he knew every player by name and wasn’t satisfied unless the team won by at least three goals. But I’m sure if asked… his favorite pass time was being Opa to his great grandchildren.

Four years into retirement… Dad’s health issues began. Between 2 heart valve surgeries, by-pass surgery, vascular surgery, stents, pacemaker, angiograms, he endured them all… I always called him the Bionic Man. Having moved to South Carolina summer of 2019… a new chapter began for Dad and Mom… Southern living.

We all know that today was another beautiful reunion in Eternity with loved ones… it always harder for us who experience the loss. Please keep us all in your prayers during this time, especially our Mom.
Survived by his loving Wife, Else Jacob; Daughter, Linda (Philip) Alferink; Sons, David (Anita) and Michael Jacob. Grandchildren, Kevin (Emily) and Cassandra Alferink, Ethan, Taylor and Ryan Jacob. Sister, Hilde Horn; Sister-In-Law, Nancy (John) Roth. Many Nieces and Nephews.
