Obituary for Emerio Alonso

Emerio "Mario" Alonso, 60 of Iva, SC went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2021, He was diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer in 2016. After a brave fight, he passed while surrounded by his loving family.

Emerio was born in Santa Lucia, Cuba and was a son of Julio Alonso-Dias and the late Aida Hernandez-Tejeda.

Emerio was a dedicated friend and family man. He enjoyed travel with his wife, time with his children and grandchildren, and reunions with friends. He was a master door mechanic for many years in New York City, proud to be in the carpenter's union. He loved fishing, parties, sports, and being the center of attention. He will be loved, remembered, and greatly missed by many.

In addition to his father, Emerio is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Coral Sinkinson Alonso of Iva , SC, their 5 children, Vanessa (Wifredo Acevedo)) Vazquez of Pennsylvania, Brandie (Jarrett) Roman of Anderson, Lizette (Andy) Reina of Powdersville, George (Erin) Alonso and Joseph (Karen Kertesz) Alonso, both of New Jersey. Mr. Alonso was also survived by his adored grandchildren, Hannah Roman, Gracie Roman, Jackson Alonso, Vannali Acevedo, Wilfredo Acevedo, Sr., his siblings, Miguel (Verity) Alonso of Abbeville, Mery (Eric) Steckly of New Jersey, his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 3:00 PM in the Tribute Room of The Standard Funeral Center. The family will also have a public visitation beginning at 1:30 PM until the hour of service on Friday.

Social distancing is to be observed and face masks are required.

The family ask that all flowers at letters be sent to the home in Iva, SC.
