Obituary for Doug Brown
IVA, SC (Doug Brown) Douglas Edward Brown, 77, husband of Sue Brown of Iva, died Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Starr, S.C. on August 11, 1943, he was a son of the late Willis Milton Brown and the late Lois Mae Evans Brown.
Doug retired from Anderson County School District #3 in the maintenance department. He had worked at Crescent High School and Starr-Iva Middle School. Prior to his time with the school district, he worked with Hughes Well Drilling and with several area textile mills, including Jackson Mill, Starr Mill and Gluck Mill.
He and his wife are members of Carswell Baptist Church in Iva.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Hayes Brown, daughters, Wanda Elgin (Kenny), and Lisa Phillips (Ray), grandchildren, Brandon Phillips (Brooke), Christopher Simpson, Cody Simpson (Michelle), and Kelsey Davis (Tyler) and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Sam Brown (Brenda), Ida Mae Brock, Clara Gaines (Jimmy), and Roger Brown (Peggy).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Kyle Simpson and Dustin Phillips, a great-granddaughter, Emily Simpson, and his siblings, Claudie Brown and Janie Morgan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 7, 2020 from 10:00am – 11:30am at The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd. Anderson, SC 29625.
Following the receiving of friends, a graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 12:00pm at Carswell Baptist Church Cemetery 4301 Flat Rock Rd. Iva, SC 29655 Rev. Hudson White will officiate and Mrs. Ludez Belk will speak.
Social distancing it to be observed and face masks are required.
