Don spent his career in textile management with Burlington Industries in St. Pauls, NC. He was granted a patent for an enhancement to a machine made by a Japanese company. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in St. Pauls, where he was a middle school Sunday School teacher before he and wife retired and moved to Anderson, SC to be close to family. In Anderson, he has been an active member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

Don grew up in Red Springs and Lumber Bridge, NC and met his wife in high school. They married on July 21, 1963 and were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary this month. He attended Campbell University in NC for 2 years and was a member of the baseball team. As he put it, he played “a little” baseball. After getting married, he and his wife moved to St. Pauls, NC, where he began his career at Burlington Industries. He was a loved member of the community and at work. He was an active member of the Jaycee’s and on the board of the local library, serving as President of both at times. He was an avid golfer and hunter.

In Anderson, as a member of Boulevard Baptist Church, he participated in several activities, but particularly, Saturday Servants, where they bagged lunches for the underprivileged community. In his later years, he spent a significant amount of time showing his love for others by visiting church members in the hospitals, rehabs, hospice, and at home, bringing joy with his signature smile. He and his wife especially loved spending time with their grandsons and supporting them in all of their activities for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, S.C. Rev. Austin Carty will officiate. The family will receive friends, in the church sanctuary, prior to the service, from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.
