Obituary for Daniel Howard

Daniel Lee Howard
February 8, 1944 - July 19, 2022

Daniel Howard, 78, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at his daughter’s home in Anderson, SC, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 surrounded by his family.

He was born in San Diego, CA, to the late William Sherman and the late Grace Lorraine (Thompson) Howard. His family returned to St Louis, MO in 1946 after his father’s military service. In 1955 he moved with his parents and brother Bobby to Florida.

He graduated from Stranahan High School in Ft Lauderdale in 1962 and joined the US Army. He was selected for Officer’s Candidate School and upon completion was Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with V Device, the Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Combat Stars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, CIB and two Purple Hearts for his gallant service. He was a Master Parachutist and a lifelong Patriot.

He retired in 1986. One of his favorite places was Hawaii after having served with the 25th Infantry Division from 1971-1975. His ashes will be scattered at Shark’s Cove on Oahu where he can continue to enjoy the tropical fish.

He is survived by his son, David Howard (Michelle), his daughter, Chrissy Howard Fernandez (Rick), four grandchildren, Eddie Fernandez, Danielle Howard Beverung, Robert Howard, Samantha Hitchcock, and his brother, Bobby Howard(Sharyn).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Donna Howard Hitchcock.
