Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Whitworth Moore (Semple), and his second wife,
of 30 years, Joanne Woodward Moore, his son, Timothy Gerald Moore, and his stepson, Danny Woodward.

Jerry was also preceded in death by his five brothers, George, Dickie, Earl, Rusty, and Buddy, and one sister, Jenny.

Jerry served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years. He enlisted at the age of 19 in 1954.

He served his military time in financial disbursement. This included payroll and travel disbursements for Marines and Navy personnel. Jerry’s career took him abroad to Puerto Rico, Okinawa, Japan and two tours in Vietnam. Jerry’s duty stations also included Arlington, Virginia and Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1974, Jerry continued working in the financial accounting field.
Jerry worked with Bud Branyon Accounting and attended Tri-County Technical College, earning an Associate degree in accounting. Jerry ended his career working for J. Marion Campbell and Co., for over 25 years.

During the years of 1992 through 1994 Jerry was active in the T.L. Hanna NJROTC program as a volunteer and served as the inaugural President of the NJROTC Booster Club. Upon completion of his service, an annual award was named in his honor to be given to a cadet’s parent or guardian who displayed robust support for the NJROTC program throughout the past school year.

Jerry would talk about the Marine Corps with any person that would listen. Jerry loved every pet he ever owned; he would often give them too many “snackies” causing them to become overweight.
He loved his family with his whole heart. The highlight of his day was seeing his granddaughters bringing him his mail. Jerry would also spend the summers watching his family enjoying the family pool.

As his health declined, he remained upbeat and optimistic. He maintained a sweet disposition with all caregivers, no matter his location. Whether he was at home, AnMed Health, Richard Campbell Veterans Home, or Hospice of the Upstate, he always had a smile and a wink for his caregivers.
