Obituary for Claire Barnett

Claire Barnett passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 in Anderson, SC.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Thomas Campbell Barnett III of Clemson, SC.

Claire was born in Clover, SC on December 10, 1935 to Wilhelmina E and Zeb N Pursley.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Manly Pursley and sister Martha Pursley Baucom.

She graduated from Clover High School and went on to receive her BS in Nursing from the Medical College of South Carolina (MUSC).

She worked in various areas of nursing including surgical, ER and many years as a school nurse for Clover Schools. Her greatest joy in nursing came after her retirement as a loving help to eleven of hers and Campbell’s elderly relatives.

Claire and Campbell had many wonderful years on Lake Wylie entertaining friends and boating on their pontoon and being members of the “Beaver Dam Creek” social scene. Their other love was the beach, especially Ocean Isle and North Myrtle Beach where they eventually retired for 10 years. They loved shagging and neighbors at 5th Avenue S. Season tickets to Clemson Tigers football were a huge part of their lives for many years – especially travel to away games and bowl games. Travel was a great pleasure of theirs.

In recent years, they moved to Anderson and Clemson – back to the lake and the Tigers. They enjoyed visits often from their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to Campbell, Claire is survived by her daughter Amy Williams Halliday (Craig) of Milton, GA and son Chris Williams (Leslie) of Clover, SC, grandchildren: Matthew Halliday (Laura), Evan Halliday (Jenny), Caroline Lane (Jared), Grant, Erin and Ryan Williams and great-grandchildren: Luke, Samuel and Analeigh Halliday, Aubrey and Hazel Lane, and Ford Halliday.

A memorial service will be held at the Clover ARP Church at 1pm Thursday, April 29, 2021. Memorial gifts may be made to: Oakdale Baptist Church, PO Box 127 Townville, SC 29689.
