Obituary for Clay Pepper

(Clay Pepper) Charles Henry Clay Pepper Sr., 69, husband of Deborah “Debbie” Patterson Pepper, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his home.

Born in Anderson, on February 6, 1954, he was a son of the late Clyde Charles Pepper and the late Kathleen Miller Sanders.

Clay retired from Miller Construction in Anderson, where he was a heavy machine operator for over 40 years. For nearly 50 years, he was a fireman with the Flat Rock-Bowen Fire Department and had formerly served as an officer at the department. He and his wife were active members of High Praises Church of God, and he loved working in his yard and operating a tractor any chance he got!

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah Jean “Debbie” Patterson Pepper, children; Charles Pepper Jr., Kelly Evans Williamson (Ricky), and Chris Pepper (Marlee), grandchildren; Kayla Craft (Eric), Haley Pepper, Chase Pepper, Matthew Pepper, Savannah Evans, Gage Evans, Mason Pepper, and Wells Pepper.

He is also survived by his brother, David Sanders (Michael), and his sister, Jackie Bennett (Kensel), as well as his special aunt, Beatrice Fleeman.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Pastor Chris Sustar will officiate, and burial, with fireman honors, will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

The family will receive friends, at The Standard, prior to the service, from 12:30pm – 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun St., Anderson, S.C. 29621.
