Obituary for Earl Chapman

Beverly Earl Chapman, 79, of Sandy Springs, SC, passed away, at his desk at Earl’s Garage, on January 25,2023.

Born October 26, 1943, Earl was the son of Boyce Suddath Chapman and Ophelia Orine Campbell Chapman of Sandy Springs, SC, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Earl Chapman of Sandy Springs,SC.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Marie Chapman; daughter, Carey Chapman Glenn and son in law, Thomas Scott Glenn, Jr. of Sandy Springs, SC; brothers Boyce Suddath Chapman, Jr., William Brough Chapman, both of Royston ,GA.

In addition, he is also survived by his grandchildren, Nikki Chapman, of Anderson,SC, Eden and Clementine Collins, and Jonah, Alijah, and Rose Glenn of Sandy Springs,SC, and great grandchildren Stoney, Michaela, and Trinity Mann of Anderson,SC.

Earl had lived a very rich and full life, and was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness
and member of the Anderson congregation, attending meetings regularly and active in field ministry work, where he shared his faith with countless numbers of people over his time as a baptized member of the organization. Earl and his wife, Marie were both baptized in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1976, and they made their faith and service central in their lives over the years.

Earl was a member of the class of 1961 from Pendleton High School, Pendleton SC, and he graduated from John C. Calhoun Jr. College in Decatur, Alabama in 1971 and the University of Alabama (Huntsville) in 1974, with a BA in Psychology. He served in the navy from 1960-64, and again from 1966-68 He then served on the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy and detective on the Decatur, Alabama police force between 1968-1973.

He worked with Daniel Construction as a purchasing agent before starting his own businesses, Sandy Springs Exxon (1977-89) and Earl’s Garage (1989-2023). He worked as a mechanic and had hobbies of street rod building and playing the guitar. He worked with his son Michael and nephew David for 30+ years.

Earl was a trusted and treasured community member and friend to many, a beloved and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandfather. His humor was unmatched, his wisdom and insight abundant, his stories legendary, and his gratitude and joy for being alive were always evident.

He was a faithful witness and servant of his Creator, Jehovah, and always aimed to imitate the footsteps of Christ Jesus.

A visitation will be held at The Standard Cremation and Funeral Center 1621 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC 29625 on Monday January 30, 2023 from 5-8pm.

A memorial service will be held Feb 4, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Calhoun Street Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 1401 E Calhoun St, Anderson,SC, 29621.

The family has organized a Pickin’ and Grinnin’ Potluck in Earl’s honor to be held at Earl’s Garage located at
1103 Watkins Road Anderson) on Saturday February 11, 2023 from 2-6pm. Please bring a dish and your instrument or voice.
