Betty Lou Brooks Kay, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at North Pointe Assisted Living, her home for the past five years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Charles Kay; her parents, Ernest and Ruby Brooks; and a brother, Gary Brooks.

She was Mom to her daughter, Lynn Kay Haynie and husband Bill and her son, Mark Kay and wife, Jana.

She was “Nanny Kay” to grandchildren, Erin Haynie Hinson and husband, Kenny; Rhett Haynie and wife, Becca; and Brooks Kay, and to her great-grandchildren Jack & Maggie Hinson and Wilder & Cedar Haynie.

Betty was honored to be called Nanny Kay by many, many friends whom she loved and who loved her in return.

She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Polly Kay and many nieces and nephews.

Nanny Kay was known for her joy of life, her kindness to others, her quirky sense of humor and her true loves...her family, her music, all animals and of course, red lipstick.

Her family will always be grateful for the excellent care she received at North Pointe.

A special thank you to the staff and her friends there for the love and kindness shown to her every day. Thank you to Crescent Hospice for their services during the last months of her life.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson, SC 29625. A private family burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in The Maple Room of The Standard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or to PAWS, 1320 Highway 29 South, Anderson, SC 29626.
