Obituary for Barbara Herring

Barbara Jean Herring was born October 27, 1950 in San Angelo, Texas. She lived in the great state of Texas most of her life, primarily in the northeastern part of the state. She moved to South Carolina a little over 20 years ago, where she retired with her best friend/partner Patsy Pack. Barbara has two children, her daughter, Cynthia A. Divsalar (née Harris) born in 1968, and her son, Charles R. Hicks, born in 1974. One of her greatest joys in life was being a grandma to her twin grandsons, Nicholas and Thomas Divsalar, born in 2009. She attended Irving High School and graduated from a technical business college in east Texas. Barbara was a “Jill-of-all trades” with a diverse work experience ranging from tobacco farming in Tennessee, long-term employment at GNC Manufacturing in Greenville, and most recently she was co-owner of a variety store in Anderson. Barbara had so many interests over the years including crocheting and woodcarving, and she recently adopted two German Shepherd pups with her son, which provided her with wonderful companionship. Over the last few years, she was beleaguered with many illnesses but had a strong spirit and will to survive; devotion to her faith and her Bible studies helped give her the strength to see her through. Barbara was a compassionate and loving mother, grandma, sister and aunt and was a friend to everyone she met. She loved her family more than anything. Barbara was truly loved and will be greatly missed by us all.

Barbara passed away peacefully at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina on March 14, 2021 surrounded by her family following a recent illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Jean Jenkins (née Fowler), father, David H. Herring, younger sister, Wanda Carolyn Herring, older brothers, Walter Fred Riebe, Roy E. Riebe, David Herring, and her best friend/partner, Patsy R. Pack. Barbara is survived by her son, Charles Hicks, her daughter/son-in-law, Cyndi and Joe Divsalar, and her grandsons, Nicky and Tommy Divsalar. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Craig and Evana Herring, Bobbie and Jeff Murphy, Michael and Susan Jenkins, and many nieces and nephews. Barbara also leaves behind her beloved dog, “General.”

No services are being held at this time. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
