Obituary for Barbara Dempsey

(Barbara Dempsey) Barbara Ann Black Dempsey, 89, wife of the late Marshall E. Dempsey, of Anderson, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Prisma Heath Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson, on October 1, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Dee Jacob Black and the late Viola Clark Black.

Barbara was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church in Anderson, for over 60 years. She loved being involved in many areas of the church. She formerly served as the W.M.U. Director, and served on the bereavement committee, where she prepared many meals for families within the church. She loved baking cakes and supplied them to several Anderson area restaurants.

Years ago, she and her sister-in-law, Sue Brewer, operated The Talent Tree, a local arts and crafts store.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Dempsey Simpson (Ken), her son, Mike Dempsey, her grandchildren, Jeremy Simpson, Christoper Simpson (fiancé Stephanie Beaver), Morgan Moore (Rick), and Miranda Dempsey, as well as her great-grandchildren, Julian, and Raylon Moore.

She is also survived by her sister, Patsy Jones (Jimmy), and her brother, Jacob Truman “J.T.” Black (Jean).

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Cowart.

A funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm, on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Forest Hill Baptist Church, 909 Plantation Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29621. Rev. Tom Owen will officiate, and burial beside her husband, will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends, at the church, prior to the service, from 12:30pm – 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Forest Hill Baptist Church Bereavement Committee Fund, or her Sunday School class fund.
