Obituary for Austin Brown

(Austin Brown) Austin Howard Brown, 88, husband of Martha Richardson Brown, of Anderson, died Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Hart County, Georgia, on October 12, 1934, he was a son of the late William Newton Brown, and the late Fannie Sue Craft Brown.

Austin was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the 82nd Airborne. After his service to our country, he embarked on a 43-year career with Owens Corning Fiberglas, where he retired from the alloy department. He enjoyed spending time in his home studio, where he was a furniture craftsman and a stained-glass artist. He was a former little league coach and loved spending time with his family.

He and his wife were charter members of Unity Baptist Church in Starr, where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Richardson Brown, his children; Kenny Shemwell (Linda), Kim Brown Harrelson, Dennis Brown, Linda Brown Brown (Eddie), and Richard Brown (Donna).

He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Brown Wilhite (William).

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, James D. Harrelson, and his siblings; Hoyt Brown, Louise Nix, Robbie Jo Black, and Billy Brown.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Rev. David Pickens and Rev. Lloyd Robison will officiate. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

The family will receive friends, at The Standard, prior to the service, from 12:30pm-2:00pm.
