Arthur “Hub” Owen
June 9, 1935- April 23, 2023
Arthur David “Hub” Owen, 87, husband of the late Helen Stansell Owen, of Easley, SC, died Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home.
Born in Pickens, SC, he was a son of the late Samuel Grady Owen, and the late Marie Stokes Owen. He retired from BASF. He was a long-time substitute teacher at Pickens County Schools after his retirement and was affectionately known as “Hub the Sub”. He served in the Air Force as an aircraft radio repairman and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 52. He was so proud of his country and his service to his fellow man.
Every morning Hub would unlock the doors and brew the coffee at Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor in Easley, where he and his coffee buddies would enjoy working on crossword puzzles. Hub enjoyed watching golf and was a faithful member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and his Sunday School Class, Inspiration. He never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. He loved to give nicknames to everyone he met, and he was so well loved by those who knew him. He loved to cut his grass and anyone else who needed their lawn cut too!
Hub is survived by his sons, Timothy William Owen, and his wife Ashley, along with Samuel David Owen, and his wife Melissa. He is also survived by his grandchildren Haily Star Getzelman (Stan), Johna Mary O’Leary (Jack), Leanna Brooke Harper (Kasey), Raigan Emilee Owen, Annsley Nicole Weatherly, and Carter David Owen, along with great grandchildren Owen Crouchman, Easton Harper, Slater Harper, Blakely Harper, and the soon-to-be born Olivia O’Leary.
Hub is survived by his siblings Phyllis Owen Spearman, Sylvia Owen Justice (Robert), and Robert Michael Owen (Donna).
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hub’s Open Arm’s Hospice Nurse, Heather Beard, along with his sister-in-law and special caregiver Ellen Sponsler (Lellie).
A funeral service will be held at 12pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Rd #1430, Easley, SC 29642. Pastor Scott Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors by the United States Air Force, 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy, Pickens, SC 29671.
Visitation will be held from 6pm-8pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, 100 Clay St, Easley, SC, 29642.
